Persistent Happiness

Persistent Happiness

By Kelsey Soto

The rain hits against the window pane,

I hear my parents laughing.

They’re young kids again.

Cuddled on the couch,

I see what they were before they had me and my siblings.

Young and in love.

After 30 years,

I see them stronger.

Year after year they persist.

I know that it wasn’t easy for them.

Yet, here they are.

Not rich but rich with love.

Their home is decorated with pictures of family and friends.

Awards and achievements.

There is noise coming from everywhere.

They are surrounded by kids and pets.

Love is a persistent happiness.

They will always have love.
